BIO…
Lucia Vinograd is an exhibiting painter, illustrator, graphic designer, and award-winning educator. She is the founder of Imaginal Arts, an art studio and educational consulting center dedicated to exploring the imaginal realms of the unseen world. As an artist, she seeks to elicit the dreaming mind of her subjects. As an educator, she includes art, ceremony, and mindfulness to invite connection to matters of the heart, deepening relationships with self, others, and the Earth. Lucia believes there is a unique and vital gift born in each of us, it is our job in this life to develop it so we can give it away, for a gift is only a gift when given. Compassion, curiosity, mythopoetic imagination, and appreciation for our differences are keystones in her approach to education.
“I was born in Madison, Wisconsin to an artist mother and a scientist father. My mother filled the house with creative whimsy, while my father, the Director of Biomedical Research for NASA, imparted his rational linear logic. Navigating these two very different ways of thinking, created fertile ground for my curiosity about perception and how we come to know what we think we know.”
Lucia’s studies began at the Corcoran Gallery School of Art in Washington, D.C., where she was accepted in college-level courses while still in high school. She received her degree from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, and later enrolled in Pacifica Graduate Institute in Ventura CA to study Depth Psychology. She chaired the Visual Arts Departments at three independent schools in Southern California and directed educational programs at the Ojai Foundation and the Arkansas Craft School, and the New Mexico Fiber Arts Center, all the while maintaining her professional art career. Her commissioned works have been exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, the Whitney Museum, MOCA, and at the Stuart Collection at UC San Diego. Her clients have included the Getty Museum, the Biosphere Foundation, Topa Institute, and the BBC. She moved to El Rito, New Mexico in 2015.
