Designed for the“Chama Watershed Body and Soul” exhibition presented by Rio Chama Concerned Citizens. Avanyu is a deity of the Tewa and Tiwa-speaking peoples, is a horned serpent, the guardian of all waterways, and the harbinger of storms. As tears are the honey of the heart, so the celestial tears of Avanyu are shed with love to nurture, shape, dissolve, renew, and heal.
