New Directions for Veterans
Project: Mural for the exterior wall of the central conference room
Location: Building 116 of the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Campus
Commission: Design, and Paint a 10 x 60 ft mural
New Directions offers transitional housing and comprehensive support services to veterans living on the streets. The 161-person capacity residence provides both transitional and bridge housing. On-site comprehensive services are available for homeless veterans in the program. I was asked to design a mural that told the story of these veterans. The conference room is round with a corridor around its circumference. The mural is located on the room’s exterior wall and cannot be seen in its entirety from any one view. The story it tells, of the men being served by the facility, unfolds as one walks the circumference.
