Art is my way to notice the magic of everyday life. What captures me becomes an invocation, a calling, a flash of recognition. It may be a moment of light or a fleeting expression in someone’s eyes, or even the profound poetic beauty of a withering flower. The subjectivity of sight is a profoundly personal phenomenon. Light is only the beginning. It sends the image through the eyes to find significance deep inside the secret regions of the heart. A discourse begins there and continues as an intimate wordless conversation between the visual world, the dream beneath the surface, and what appears on the canvas. Although I work within the convention and known ground of representation, I use elements that I can’t control to inspire invention. I hold the original spark as a guide and allow my imagination to continue the conversation refining the image with subjectivity.
